Tutorial:Installing AlphaVers

Note: This page is for downloading the client to play on singleplayer or play in a server. If you wish to host your own server as well, go here.
To play AlphaVers you'll need a Microsoft/Mojang account with Minecraft: Java Edition license and Java Runtime Environment installed. The playable versions are:
- Alpha 1.0.16.05 Preview
- Alpha 1.0.16.05 UNR.PREVIEW2
- Alpha 1.0.16.05_13 Lilypad QA
- Alpha 1.0.16.05_20 Cypress
- Alpha 1.0.16.05 R4 (Prototype)
Download links are available on the page of each version. The following methods should be true for installing modified versions as well.
DECRAFT
This method is recommended by the gamerunners and has been featured in the video, Relief.
- Download DECRAFT from here, unzip it, and then run DeCraftLauncher.
- Bring your AlphaVer client jar into DECRAFT by either:
- Put the client jar into the
jars
folder, which is located within the unzippedDECRAFT
folder. - Drag the client jar over the DECRAFT app window as directed by the text that will show up.
- Put the client jar into the
- Select your desired jar and change your Launch Options at the top to what you desire. This includes your window resolution, account name, JVM arguments, and more.
- Launch the jar via one of the Entry Points: "net.minecraft.client.Minecraft" or "net.minecraft.client.MinecraftApplet," which is located in the list below the Launch Options.
MultiMC
This method is also recommended by the gamerunners and featured in the video Attempt to run today. This method should also work for PolyMC, Prism Launcher and any other deriviatives of MultiMC.
- Download MultiMC from their website and run it.
- If you're on Linux, check that you have these Qt5 packages installed:
- Arch:
qt5-base
. - OpenSuse:
libqt5-qtbase
. - CentOS/Fedora/RHEL:
qt5-qtbase
. - Ubuntu/Debian:
libqt5core5a
libqt5network5
libqt5gui5
.
- Arch:
- If you're on Linux, check that you have these Qt5 packages installed:
- Log into your Microsoft/Mojang account.
- Click New Instance.
- Check box Alphas.
- Choose a1.0.16.
- (Optional) Rename the instance to whatever you want (you can also change the icon).
- Click OK.
- Choose the newly created instance and click Edit Instance.
- Click Replace Minecraft.jar.
- Choose the downloaded AlphaVer jar (or mod).
- Now you can launch it by clicking either Launch or Launch Offline.
Betacraft
- Download Betacraft from here and run it.
- Go to your Betacraft directory and find the
versions
file (If you don't see a.betacraft
folder in your file manager, it means you need to turn Show Hidden Files on):- Windows:
C:\Users\<Your User>\AppData\Roaming\.betacraft\versions

/Users/<Your User>/Library/Application Support/betacraft/versions/

- Windows:
- Get an AlphaVer client jar and put it in the
versions
folder. - Relaunch Betacraft.
- Press Select version.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select the version that matches the name of the jar you put in. It should have a [Custom] at the end of the name.
- Enter a username of your choice into the box above the “Play” button, or log into your Microsoft/Mojang account.
- Now you can play with the Play button.
PojavLauncher (Outdated)
This method should work, however it's likely you won't be able to run AlphaVer mods.
(This method is outdated, however you should be able to use it if you're on an older version.)
- Download PojavLauncher from Google Play.
- Log into your Microsoft/Mojang account.
- Tap on (Default) 1.7.10 spinner.
- Choose Create new profile.
- Choose version 1.0.
- Switch the renderer to gl4es.
- Tap Save.
- Tap Play and wait till the title screen shows.
- Close PojavLauncher.
- Copy the downloaded AlphaVer jar to
/storage/emulated/0/games/PojavLauncher/.minecraft/versions/1.0
. - Delete the original 1.0.jar.
- Rename your jar to 1.0.jar.
- Now you can open PojavLauncher, choose your Account and press Play to launch it.
Official launcher/Updated PojavLauncher
This method is not recommended unless you understand what you're doing. If you're using PojavLauncher, skip step 1.
- Download the Minecraft Launcher from official website or Microsoft Store.
- Download custom client.json for AlphaVer jars.
- Create a folder for a new installation in
.minecraft/versions
. - Put the custom json and your jar into the folder and make sure both files have the same name as the folder.
- In the launcher, go to Settings and make sure Show historical versions of Minecraft: Java Edition in launcher is enabled.
- When creating a new installation, select version old_alpha Lilypad_QA (or whichever version you're using).
Q&A
Q: Where do I get and how do I input the code required to play Lilypad QA?
A: Go to https://exalpha-dev.github.io/g_registration.html, and enter the username you’re using into the text box and press the “Generate Key” button. The key should be copied to your clipboard now. Paste the key you got into the input box and press the “Input” button.
Q: I get the NOT THIS TIME TIMOTHY
error.
A: Set the JVM argument -Djava.util.Arrays.useLegacyMergeSort=true
Q: I get the Unable to authenticate using ULPP
error.
A: Try re-logging in a few hours as this usually means that Mojang's authentication servers are currently down.
